On The Trail
Our Pack is very active! Some activities we participate in on a regular basis are listed below.
Pack Meeting
ONCE A MONTH
We hold our Pack meetings usually on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM. Meetings are held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. At these meetings we review upcoming events, pass out awards, and learn something new. These are fun and well attended meetings where all of our Dens can mingle and get to know one another.
Den Meeting
ONCE A MONTH
Den meetings are coordinated by your Den Leader. Meetings are sometimes held at St. Andrews, a park, or even a Scout’s home. These meetings are where the Scouts in a Den can work to complete the requirements for their rank. Times and dates will vary for each Den but are typically 30 minutes to an hour and occur once or twice a month.
Camping
YEAR ROUND
Where haven’t we camped? Pack 325 has camped at several of the Circle Ten Council campsites, State Parks, County Parks, SMU Football Stadium, Cowboys Stadium, and even with the dinosaurs at the Perot Museum. Camping is one of the most exciting activities our Pack gets to do. We get to let go of the electronics and experience nature while having an adventure and learning new skills. Some of our campouts are just our Pack or even just a Den. While others are Camporees put on by our District or Council. We have even participated in a BSA National Campout!
Summer Camp
JUNE/JULY
Cub Day Camp/Twilight Camp and Cub Scout and Webelos Resident Camp are great ways to finish the program year on a high note. During the months of June and July, Circle Ten Council and many Districts offer Cub Scout camps that are jam packed with activities for every age. Cub Scout Day/Twilight Camp offers the opportunity to work on advancements and to have fun doing the things Cub Scouts love to do like shooting BB guns and archery! Resident camps can be 3 day/2 night or 4 day/3 night stays. Scouts get to experience an outdoor overnight stay in the great outdoors, discovering nature, Scout skills, aquatic activities, and much more.
Pinewood Derby
SPRING
All of our Scouts love to compete in the spring in our Pinewood Derby. The Pack provides pinewood car kits for Scouts and friends and family to build their cars. We host build workshops to help racers get their car ready for the big race. Race check-in is the night before the race and is where a car is officially inspected and loaded into our race software. The next day is race day and the fans go crazy. There are awards and an opportunity for the fastest car to advance to the District race.
Fishing Derby
SPRING or FALL
Depending on the weather or the Pack’s calendar we try to have a Fishing Derby at least once a year. There’s no competition, but we have found some local fishing spots with fish that bite! Scouts get to learn how to bait a hook and touch a very slimy fish. We encourage friends and family to join in the fun.
Fourth of July Parade
JULY 4th
A long standing tradition of walking in the Lakewood Fourth of July Parade is an honor for Pack 325. Scouts take turns carrying the American, Texas, and Pack flags at the front of the parade. Leading the parade is pretty exciting for our Scouts and they see many friends along the parade route. Next time you are at the 4th of July parade, look for our Pack at the front!
Scouting for Food
WINTER/SPRING
Another opportunity to teach Scouts about helping our local community happens every year towards the end of winter and beginning of spring. Our Scouts will participate in Scouting for Food. This activity happens over two weekends, usually on a Saturday morning. The first Saturday we meet at St. Andrews and distribute shopping bags and flyers to our neighbors. On the second Saturday, Scouts return to pick up bags filled with food donations. All of the food collected by our Scouts stays in our area to help those in need.
Community Service
ANYTIME
Pack 325 takes the opportunity to teach youth the importance of community service whenever we can. Whether creating gift bags for the elderly, supporting local park flag raisings, or park clean ups we do our best. One of our favorites is taking care of a wonderful natural resource near us, White Rock Lake. Working with “For the Love of the Lake” organization, we pick up grabbers, gloves, and trash bags to help clean up White Rock Lake periodically throughout the year.
Leader & Volunteer Meetings
To keep the Pack running smoothly, our leaders attend Pack committee meetings as well as District meetings. In addition to role specific training, we encourage our leaders to attend University of Scouting, Wood Badge, and other District and Council training opportunities.
Pack Committee Meeting
ABOUT ONCE A MONTH
Our Committee is where all of the real decisions are made. Leveraging the leadership of the “Key Three” we plan and execute our yearly activities to the best of our abilities. Meetings focus on Pack needs, financials, and future planning.
District Roundtable
ONCE A MONTH
Tejas Caddo District Roundtable is a place for adult leaders to gather, network with other Scouters, receive supplemental training, and learn important district and council information. The monthly event provides program topic guidance, information about district/council events, and constructive suggestions for unit leaders. It is a fun learning environment that creates excitement around the coming month of activities and program for unit leaders to carry back for implementation in their units. These meetings are the second Thursday of each month.
University of Scouting
Winter
The University of Scouting is an adult leader’s learning adventure! It is an action-packed, fun-filled single day of supplemental training where you choose the classes you wish to take. Classes are led by experienced volunteers and professionals who will help you enhance your ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts. Typically held in January.
Wood Badge
Select Dates
Wood Badge is an advanced, national leadership course open only to Scouting volunteers and professionals. Scouters from Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, and Explorers, and district and council Scouters all are welcome and belong here. Wood Badge was created by Baden-Powell over 100 years ago and the purpose is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of the Boy Scouts of America. Our Pack encourages our leaders to complete this course to better prepare them for their current and future Scouting roles.
Cub Scouting
Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family. In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life. There is a place for every parent, legal guardian, or other caring adult who wants to help and have fun. Getting everyone involved makes the experience more meaningful for your Cub Scout.
